After retiring from the NFL in 1991 due to knee injuries, Chet continued his success off the field by starting his own real estate development and construction company in 1992. Chet immediately scored a touchdown and made a difference in the Oak Cliff community that had rewarded him with so many opportunities, by purchasing an 8 year old eye sour in of an incomplete deteriorating then ten (10) home community in the Redbird area and quickly turned it into a thriving semi private 25 home community in Oak Cliff. Chet continued his success in servicing the Dallas community and surrounding areas by providing affordable housing as well as custom-built homes until retiring again in 2000. Since 2000, Chet has continued his success in many facets of the real estate industry as well as his many community outreach efforts.
Chet’s strong family foundation and community base gave him a deep seated desire to give back to the youth in the same community that provided him so many opportunities. This desire led him to begin his own personal Adopt-A-School program in 1992 providing assistance to a number of schools in the southern sector of Dallas (donating time, goods, and services), including Umphrey Lee Elementary, D. A. Hulcy Middle School, and D. W. Carter High School – all of which he attended as a kid. He began mentoring youth from Elementary to High School in 1985 assisting students in areas of reading and math in after school programs and served as a volunteer coach at D. W. Carter High School for 2 years. Chet has received hundreds accolades and awards for his community service including recognition by Fox 4 News (Dallas, Texas), and receiving the Community Outreach Award presented by the North Texas Inter-Alumni Council of UNCF. Also recognized by the Mayor of the City of Oakland (California) for Public Outreach and Educational Efforts provided to the youth of Oakland, CA, and many more appreciation awards presented by the schools and community programs at which he provides his services.
